HOLIDAY BLOOD DRIVE

I wanted to share this listener email with you.

I heard about the blood drive while I was driving today to have lunch with a friend. An ordinary thing for most people- but it has been a year since I have been able to do it. At this time last year, I thought I had caught a bug-I was usually pretty healthy. By Christmas day I was writhing in pain.

My platelet count was at 3,000- it is supposed to be anywhere from 150,000- 400,000. I was diagnosed with Leukemia and needed platelets and blood and eventually a bone marrow transplant.

I was always a donor of both platelets and blood and was registered as a donor on the bone marrow registry. I never really thought it was a big deal- heck, my body can make more. But being the recipient changes your perspective.

I wanted to call in to the station but knew I wouldn't be able to without crying. So I am asking if you could do me a favor. Please thank all the amazing people who take the time to donate blood from me. They are literally saving lives. I would not be alive without the many transfusions. My seven-year-old son would not have a mom.

I am so blessed to be alive and in remission- all from the kindness of strangers giving their blood!

Thank you!

Marissa
