All About The NEW Van Halen Stuff

Here's the deal with the two new Van Halen songs that leaked out yesterday. "Blood & Fire" is a re-working of an instrumental called "Ripley" that EVH wrote for the film "The Wild Life" back in 1984. He wrote it with the Kramer Ripley guitar which allowed each string to be panned left/right and created a unique stereo effect. The weird timing thing in the beginning takes some getting used to. "The Trouble With Never" is a re-working of Hendrix' "Crosstown Traffic," which the band used to do back in the club days. So far, nothing we've heard is truly new. Sammy Hagar said the band were mining their old material from way before he was in the band and going to present it as new stuff. Sammy continues to be right. That being said...*Every* band does it. It's their music. And the age of the riff has nothing to do with the quality of the song. In fact, most of Van Halen 3 was completely new music. Stuff not heard prior to that project. How'd that work out? We've played all the new stuff on KDKB. Perhaps we may do so again... :)
