I was on the air Rockin' the Valley when this game was in progress. Last I checked the Phoenix Coyotes were looking good with a 3 point lead over the NY Islanders. Later I saw the recap and what an amazing night for the Yotes' Team Captain Shane Doan (RW #19). Just before the buzzer Doan slapped in the puck, giving the Coyotes a 5-1 victory over the NY Islanders! After 16 seasons in the NHL and on his 1,161st game, that last second shot earned Doan the coveted hat trick.
Doan did lose out on setting a NHL record, if he would have missed that score he would have been the first player to go 39 two-goal games without a hat trick. I don't think he minds. The Coyotes won and he got his hat trick!
