VAN HALEN NEWS DESK reports David Lee Roth is in Japan doing promotions for upcoming Van Halen dates. He is also sword training with a Shugendo monk.
I'm not familiar with Shugendo so I did a search and found both Shugendo and Shugenja, which means "those who accumulate spiritual power or experience." Here's a page about Shugendo.

During Van Halen’s 1984 tour, David Lee Roth did a kung fu-style sword dance. The dance, known as “Dave’s Tai Chi Solo,” was developed by Roth and kung fu master Paulie Zink.
