Tom Hanks Reveals He Has Type 2 Diabetes

By Thomas Cowley

On Monday night while on the Late Show with David Letterman, Academy Award winning actor Tom Hanks revealed that he has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Hanks said that he has been struggling with high blood sugar since he was 36, over twenty years ago, and now according to his doctor has become full blown diabetes.

Hanks did not seem shaken by the news, partly because he had been dealing with the health issue for a third of his life, and partly because, as he says, “It's controllable...Something's going to kill us all, Dave.”

According to Hanks, his doctor told him it could be cured if he could “weigh as much as you weighed in high school” to which the actor said, “Well I'm gonna have type 2 diabetes.” This is not due to a want to be lazy, but from the fact that according to Hanks, there was no way he could lose that much weight because he was “96 pounds” and “a very skinny boy”.

Regardless of the change in lifestyle, Tom Hanks is still hard at work with his newest film, “Captain Phillips” releasing in theaters this Friday, October 11th
