On Sunday, December 1st, a 22 year old man by the name of Ikenna Uwakah was shot and killed in San Francisco over a PlayStation 4. Uwakah was trying to sell the new console online and was meeting a potential buyer when the man took the system by force, and then shot Uwakah several times and fled the scene. Uwakah was with his girlfriend when it happened, though she was not harmed. Police have a suspect in custody.
This sort of violence while not unheard of, is deplorable none the less. Regardless of religious or spiritual beliefs, the holidays are meant to be a time of peace and goodwill towards one another and it is a shame to see such violence occur partly because of the consumer aspect of this time of year. The system shortage this year has seen its fair share of violence, but nothing as chilling as blatant murder for a game system. Though that has not stopped the hardware from going for $500 to $700 dollars online, nearly twice the retail price of $399. No matter the cost however, it is simply not worth a human life.
Our hearts go out to the grieving family and friends.
